Letters to The EDITOR-Amit Shah vis-à-vis CAB

Amit Shah vis-à-vis CAB

Amit Shah boldly claimed at his party’s rally in Lakhimpur on February 17, that his government is determined to bring CAB, if they come to power in 2019. His contention is that, if CAB does not become a law, Assam would become another Kashmir. My perception about Kashmir and Kashmiris may not be the same as that of Amit Shah. However, I would like to advice Amit Shah to show some respect to the Assamese people’s sentiments. Try to understand the psyche of the Assamese people. Don’t try to see everything through a political prism. Please don’t consider the majority of Assamese people as ‘goats and sheep’ to follow you blindly. First, try to implement the promises made by Modi in Guwahati during election campaign in 2014. Show your real courage by implementing all the promises made in letter and spirit.

Assam has many long out-standing problems such as: flood and erosion, presence of millions of illegal migrants from Bangladesh and Nepal, non- completion of international border fencing with Bangladesh, imminent danger is being looming large on Assam for the construction of many hydro-power plants, including the major one i.e. 2000 MW hydro-power plant in Arunachal Pradesh and last but not the least the border problem with our neighboring states. If Amit Shah has so much love for Assam and Assamese people, let him resolve those issues expeditiously with the help of his government. I wish to send a clear message to Amit Shah that the Assamese would rather like to jump in the river Brahmaputra than to survive at the mercy of the Hindus from Bangladesh. We have survived 72 years despite various onslaughts perpetrated on us by our own Indian ‘colonial’ forces many a times and therefore we are for sure that we would survive alone for centuries to come. We consider both Muslim and Hindu Bangladeshis equally dangerous for Assam and Assamese people. Please keep in mind that a myopic vision and blinkered outlook can’t help the nation anyway!

Prafulla Dowarah,

Guwahati.
