MANGALDAI: Renu Kalita -mother of Additional Director General (Ceremonial and Welfare) in Army Headquarters in New Delhi, Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita - is no more. This humble and pious lady breathed her last at about 7.30 pm on April 23 at the residence of her eldest son Ranendra Kalita at Christian Basti in Guwahati. She was 82.

Born to the family of Basi Ram Deka and Pabitra Deka of Chamarkuchi near Borbhag in Nalbari district as the second of three children, she tied her nuptial knot with Jogendra Kalita- a Rangiya based teacher of high repute in North Kamrup area in 1955. As a humble housewife and a loving mother, she was successful in moulding and shaping her eldest son Ranendra Kalita as an Executive Engineer in Brahmaputra Board and the youngest son Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita to choose his career in the army. Both the daughters also got married to two successful persons. Renu Kalita, after the demise of her husband, mostly concentrated on various social and religious activities. Though her illness compelled her to stay in Guwahati, she was always interested to visit Rangiya.

This morning her mortal remain was brought to her residence at Rangiya town. A large number of mourners, relatives and office bearers of several organizations immediately rushed there to offer their last homage. Later, in presence of both her sons and other relatives, the mortal remain was consigned into flames at the public crematorium at Rangiya as per Vedic rituals.

Members of Mangaldai Media Circle have expressed deep shock and sorrow over the demise of Renu Kalita and condoled her bereaved family members. Adviser of Mangaldai Media Circle Bhargab Kumar Das also rushed to Rangiya to pay his last respect and to condole her demise.
