Life-size statues of five literary icons to be installed

JOYSAGAR, May 3: Sivasagar District Xahitya Xabha, in association with the Rangpur Xahitya Xabha, has taken initiative to install life-size statues of five Assamese literary icons in the Laxminath Bezbaruah Park premises in Amolapatty of Sivasagar town. The literary icons are Padmanath Gohain Baruah, Hemchandra Baruah, Sarat Chandra Goswami, Dr. Mamoni Raisom Goswami and Dr Bhupen Hazarika. The life-size statues of these icons were built during the AXX centenary celebration in Sivasagar in 2017 at the historic Rupahi Pathar. But due to some technical difficulties, the statues could be installed permanently.

But recently, after a special meeting between the Sivasagar district administration, the Sivasagar municipal authorities and the Sivasagar District Xahitya Xabha members, the decision of installing the five statues was taken and for this the site was allotted in the LNB Park of Amolapatty of the town. Senior citizens of Sivasagar have welcomed this move. Sivasagar District Xahitya Xabha members have also demanded that the statue of famous poet Jatindranath Duwarah should be erected at a suitable place in Sivasagar town.
