Lok Sabha Election Phase-I: Assam Records 78.23% Polling Percentage

Guwahati: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday evening revealed the final polling percentage for the first phase general elections across 9574 polling station in Upper Assam.

As per reports, the average percentage of polling turned out to be around 78.23 %.

It is to be noted that out of the five Lok Sabha constituencies, Kaliabor recorded highest polling percentage in Phase-I general election.

The polling percentages are as follows:

9-Tezpur - 79.15%

11-Kaliabor - 82.09%

12-Jorhat - 77.49%

13-Dibrugarh - 77.26%

14-Lakhimpur - 74.81%

A total of 41 candidates are in the fray in the first phase of polls which took place at five constituencies.

A total of 180 companies of security personnel have been deployed in the state by the Election Commission of India for smooth conduct of the polls while in the first phase 40 companies of para-military forces have been deployed in all the 9574 polling stations towards ensuring free and fair polls.

The second phase of the general election in Assam will be held on April 18.
