Lok Sabha Poll: Campaigning Picks Up Pace For Phase-III

GUWAHATI: Campaigning has picked up the pace for the third phase polls slated for April 23. Altogether 54 candidates are in the fray for four Parliamentary constituencies of Gauhati, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, and Dhubri. Among those who have been carrying out campaigning for their respective party candidates are Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, NEDA (North East Democratic Alliance) convenor and State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, AGP (Asom Gana Parishad) president Atul Bora, AICC (All India Congress Committee) general secretary and APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) in-charge Harish Rawat, APCC president Ripun Bora and BPF (Bodoland People’s Front) president Hagrama Mohillary.

Campaigning in support of BPF candidate for Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat, Pramila Rani Brahma, at Bijni and Basugaon on Wednesday, Chief Minister Sonowal said, “The alliance partners are for progress and development.” He appealed to the masses “to support the BPF candidate for also preserving our identity.” Sonowal further said, “The BJP is for harmony whereas the Congress supports disharmony.” Referring to BTAD specifically, he said, “Progress is picking up pace.” Meanwhile, addressing a poll rally in support of BJP candidate for Guwahati — Queen Oja — Chief Minister Sonowal said, “Guwahati city is witnessing development after several years.”

NEDA convenor and State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also carried out a road show at Barkhetri in support of Queen Oja. He said, “The BJP and its alliance partners are in favour of fast pace development and progress on all sectors.”

AGP president Atul Bora addressing an election rally on Wednesday said, “The Congress has siphoned off funds meant for various development schemes. They also drive wedges among communities. But our alliance partners are in favour of carrying out various development schemes. We support harmony among communities.”

BPF president Hagrama Mohilary during a poll rally in Kokrajhar announced, “Surely, Modi ‘Sarkar’ will be formed once again.”

AICC general secretary Harish Rawat carrying out a poll campaign in support of Bobbeeta Sarma, the party’s candidate for Gauhati LS seat, pointed out, “This general election has been fought between supporters of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) and its detractors. I’m sure the victory will be ours who have been opposing the Bill.”

While BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass carried out poll campaigns at Sarbhog in support of Pramila Rani Brahma, Ripun Bora campaigned in support of Congress candidate Abdul Khaleque at Barpeta and for Shabdaram Rabha in Kokrajhar.
