Lovlina to represent India in Asian Boxing Championship

GUWAHATI: Assam boxer Lovlina Borgohain will be the part of the Indian team which will participate in the forthcoming Asian Boxing Championship. The competition would be held in Bangkok from April 16.

The six-time world champion Mary Kom, who won India’s solitary gold medal from the Asian Women’s Championships in the 2017 edition in Vietnam, has decided to skip the event this time in order to focus on the World Championships to be held later in the year.

Lovlina Borgohain, who recently made several medal-winning performances in different National and International Boxing meets, will participate in the 69 kg categories. Another Assam boxer Pwilao Basumatary, who represents Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) in National Boxing Championship, is kept in the reserve list in 64kg.

Team: 48kg: Nitu (Haryana), 51kg: Nikhat Zareen (Telangana), 54kg: Manisha (Haryana), 57kg: Sonia Chahal (RSPB), 60kg: Sarita Devi (AIP), 64kg: Simranjit Kaur (Punjab), 69kg: Lovlina Borgohain (Assam), 75kg: Nupur (Haryana), 81kg: Pooja Rani, 81+kg: Seema Poonia (RSPB).
