Lumthari Coal Mine Tragedy: Little progress in rescue task

SHILLONG: Rescuers at Ksan Ryngkhloo area under Lumthari village of East Jaintia Hills district are not making any headway in the search operation for the trapped miners in the illegal rat-hole mine.

On Saturday, the Navy operated their underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) in rat holes in search of the trapped miners.

“Presently two more ROVs are being deployed for the search. However progress is slow deep inside the rat holes,” rescue operation spokesperson R Susngi said. Meanwhile, Coal India Limited pumped water for 36 hours since Friday evening till Saturday 5 pm from both their pumps discharging 48, 60, 000 litres.

The Kirloskar Brothers Limited pumped water for 32 hours since Friday evening till Saturday 5 pm from both their pumps and the total water discharged is 57, 60, 000 litres.
