Lumthari Mine Tragedy: NGRI scientists continue operation relating to ‘Electrical Tomography’

SHILLONG: Dr. Dewashish Kumar is currently working as a Senior Scientist at the National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad, and present at the mine tragedy site in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills on Friday, continued their operation relating to Electrical Tomography at the incident area to know the ‘rock strata property with in-depth.’

In addition they have also delineated a wide space in the underground length due to coal mining. Dr Niraj Kumar, also of National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad continued with his operation on the gravity survey around the incident area.

Meanwhile, the Pune based KSB Company today successfully installed two pumps one is of 30HP and another of 52HP pump. “At present pumping of water was carried out from 30HP pump and soon the 52HP pump also will get functional, pumping of water was started at 4:30pm,” rescue operation spokesperson R Susngi said. The Coal India Limited ran both their pumps since Thursday evening till Friday 5 pm with a break of two hours for refueling, Susngi informed.

In the meantime, the Odhisa Fire Service today stopped their pump to allow the Planys Chennai Technology to operate their ROV survey to identify rat holes and sonar mapping in the shaft.
