Lyndoh inspects village roads of Mawkynrew

SHILLONG, May 1: Local MLA of Mawkynrew constituency and Cabinet minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Banteidor Lyndoh on Tuesday inspected a few villages of the constituency to examine the internal road conditions.

The minister inspected the villages in the presence of Assistant Executive Engineer PWD K Nongsteng, Executive Engineer (EE) PWD B Syiem headmen of the villages, beside others.

Lyngdoh inspected a 4-km road at Laitkseh village that needs blacktopping, a road at  Thangsning that needs to be widened and a few more inter roads at Wahshnong, Wahdohkoit and Mawkynrew villages.

Speaking to reporters after the inspection, Lyngdoh said, “The village of Laitkseh does not have a proper road and this has created problems for the residents of the village over the past many years.”

He said the road at Thangsning also needs to be widened as it gets congested during heavy traffic.

The minister further said that he had completed the estimates for the construction and widening of the roads and submitted the estimates to the PWD department.

“Road connectivity is the backbone of a prosperous and healthy village. However, at present the internal roads are not in good shape. As a representative of the people it is my responsibility to improve the roads for the benefit of the villagers,” he said.

“The total estimate for the construction and widening of the roads of the constituency amounts to around Rs 8 crore,” he added.

“We are yet to receive any sanction for the proposed construction and widening of the roads. However, I’ll do my best to make sure that the government releases the sanction immediately,” he said.

 “I’ve already apprised Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and PWD Minister Prestone Tyngsong  of the situation and they are also aware of the poor road conditions of the constituency,” he said.
