Maharashtra Proposes Tallest Statue while Shiv Sena asks CM not to be Afraid of PM

Guwahati: The proposed statue of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji off the Mumbai coast is going to be the tallest in the world. However, Shiv Sena asks the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to make a carefree announcement of the same and not to be afraid of anyone while doing so. As recently, PM Modi inaugurated the tallest statue of Sardar Ballavbhai Patel in Gujarat and claimed that it is the tallest in the world, Shiv Sena is of this opinion that the news of the new tallest statue may not be accepted well by the BJP and hence, it asks the CM not to be afraid of Narendra Modi or BJP chief Amit Shah.

It seems every state in the whole nation is in the race of building the tallest statue in the world and are planning to surpass the other. After Gujarat, Sikkim and Uttar Pradesh (Ayodhya), it is now Maharashtra which is proposing to build the tallest statue.

Shiv Sena, quoting a claim made by Nationalist Congress Party's (NCP) Maharashtra unit chief Jayant Patil, says that the government at the center has made sure that the height of Shivaji's statue is decreased so that the 'Statue of Unity', dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, remains the tallest. The regional political party from Maharashtra urges the state CM that just like he did a daring job of announcing quota for the Maratha community, similarly, he should not be "scared" of Prime Minister Modi and Mr. Shah over the issue of Shivaji statue's height.

The Shiv Sena in an editorial in party mouthpiece 'Saamana' says, "Fadnavis should use the same courage that he showed while granting reservation to the Maratha community and fearlessly announce that Shivaji's statue would be the tallest in the world, and not get scared of Amit Shah and Modi. This will not diminish the prestige of Sardar Patel."

They even went back in history when the union finance minister Chintamanrao Deshmukh in the Jawaharlal Nehru government had shown courage to tender his resignation and made sure that Mumbai stayed with Maharashtra.

They also added that where, in one hand, the 'Statue of Unity' is already unveiled and opened for public viewing; on the other hand, not a single brick has been laid for the construction of Shivaji's statue.

The Shiv Sena even says that the statue of Shivaji should be larger than that of any other leader. Notably, Sardar Ballavbhai Patel was the first home minister of Independent India and his 182-meter tall statue was inaugurated by the PM on October 31.
