Mainz snap up Mateta

Berlin, June 29: Mainz have completed the signing of young attacking midfielder Jean Philippe Mateta from French outfit Olympique Lyon. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder agreed to terms on a four-year deal with Mainz, the Bundesliga club confirmed in an official statement on Thursday. “We are very pleased to announce that we have signed with Jean Philippe Mateta a top talent from Olympique Lyon. He has proved in France’s second division that he can score regularly. Jean Philippe opted for us despite numerous other offers,” Mainz’ sporting director Rouven Schroeder said. Mateta played recently on loan at second division outfit Le Havre AC where he scored 17 goals in 35 appearances. IANS
