Make NRC verification easier: APCC

Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 27: A delegation of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), led by its president Ripun Bora, met State NRC coordinator Prateek Hazela on Friday and requested him to do away with, what he said, harassment being meted to citizens in the process of document verification for establishing family trees.

The delegation also submitted a memorandum to  Hazela requesting him to (i) earmark a particular place or office where all correspondence related to verification of documents connected to NRC is made available, (ii) increase the number of staff in the existing centres to expedite the process of verification of documents, (iii) to deploy duly qualified and trained personnel who can actually help out the poor and illiterate people who appear at such centres for verification of their documents, (iv) stopping late delivery of notices asking people to appear at far-off districts at very short notices, (v) stopping notices asking for personal appearance on very flimsy ground, (vi) venues for appearance in connection to the verification of family tree should be chosen in locations that are easily accessible, (vii) temporary verification offices do not have minimum arrangements for waiting sheds, toilets and safe drinking water, etc.
