Malaria Spreading In Tripura

A Correspondent

Agartala: Despite preventive measures by the Health Department, malaria is spreading to different parts of Tripura. Reports received from Ambassa, Kanchanpur and Rishyamukh points out that Health Department workers are finding it difficult to prevent the spread of the disease. In many areas, leaves of the health officials have been cancelled.

Reports of cases of malaria are coming from many interior villages like Chawmanu, Manikpur, Malidhar, Rajdhar of Longthorai Valley sub-division and Kathalbari, Sikaribari, Ganga Nagar, etc., villages of Ambassa subdivision. There is a report of any deaths till now but many people have been admitted to hospitals. Malaria officer of the district Dr Apollo Koloi said they have already alerted many interior villages like Manikpur, Jagabandhupara about a massive malaria outbreak and necessary preventive measures have been taken.

Cases have been detected in remote Kanchanpur subdivision bordering Mizoram and Bangladesh. The jawans of the 13th Bn of Tripura State Rifles have joined the Health Department in anti-malaria activities and organizing camps in various interior places.

Reports received from Raishyabari are also not encouraging. Dr Susanta Saha, sub-divisional Medical Officer accompanied by the in-charge of Nalua PHC Dr Sanjib Saha visited many places and distributed preventive medicines. They said one major problem in preventing the spread of malaria is people still don’t rely upon modern treatment and want to stick to traditional practices.
