Malaria Spreads In Tripura Hills

A Correspondent

Agartala: Malaria is spreading in the remote areas of Kanchanpur sub-division including Bhandarima and Shantipur villages as medical aid is yet to reach to the suffering people. In absence of official medical aid, people have been forced to seek the help of the local shamans. Though there are no reports of deaths so far, the disease is spreading to new areas.

There is a hospital at Shantipur but no doctors or health workers are stationed at the hospital. As a result, people are treated by the local ASHA workers. The ASHA workers are collecting blood samples and giving some medicines which is not enough.

Kanchanpur Subdivision Medical Officer (SDMO) – Dr Harendra Reang said that three doctors are handling and monitoring the present malaria situation in Kanchanpur Subdivision Hospital. Dr Jackson Reang, in-charge of Anandabazar Primary Health Centre, admitted that there are two malaria affected patients in his hospital.
