Man arrested for involvement in mother's murder

BONGAIGAON, May 4:  In another incident of witch-hunting, So Mardi (50), wife of Lakhi Ram Soren, a resident of Balapara of Samthaibari area under Sidli PS in Chirang, was allegedly killed on April 8. Her rotten body was recovered on April 23 from the bank of Suti river of Gawliyabari village under Sidli PS in Chirang district. After investigation, police arrested Laksman Soren (26), the son of the victim, on Monday on charges of involvement in the murder.

Soren, said sources, told that two years ago he dreamt that his mother was a witch. “At that time, I told the villagers about my dream and they had punished my mother.  We also threw her out of the village at that time. She went to her mother’s house at Gawliyabari under Sidli PS in Chirang district and started staying there. But on April 8, the day of BTC polls, she again came to our village to cast her vote. After voting, she also came to our house and took lunch. When she was returning home to Gawliyabari in the evening, two of my cousins attacked her with a sharp weapon and murdered her. Then they buried her body on the bank of Suti river,” he said.

So’s body was noticed by some villagers in the evening of April 22 and it was recovered by police filly on April 23. Since then police started investigation and filly arrested Soren today for his involvement in the murder. Soren allegedly knew about the intention of his cousins to kill his mother from the beginning.

Police sources said that the two culprits would be bbed soon.
