Man gets arrested in Shatabdi Express for pulling chain for mother to finish breakfast

New Delhi: Emergencies may arise anytime during a train journey. And at such times you would dearly want to stop the train or draw attention towards the crisis. Moreover, it is improbable for the passengers to rush to those rooms seeking help during their emergencies, but, here’s a story of a 32-year-old man travelling with his mother in Habibganj Shatabdi Express on Sunday decided to pull the chain and brought the train to a halt at Mathura junction station as his mother was yet to finish her breakfast.

The man identified as Manish Arora, a resident of East Delhi, was later arrested by the police and booked under section 141 of the Railways Act, before being released on bail, claims a media report.

The media report also stated that both the passengers were traveling in the C-8 coach of the train and had to get down at Mathura. They were served breakfast in Delhi but Manish’s mother had still not finished her meal by the time the train arrived at Mathura Junction. Manish chooses to pull the chain and make it halt for extra minutes before they got down,” said CB Prasad, station house officer, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Mathura.

It is to be noted that the man was booked for unauthorized interference in the conduct of railways. He was granted bail and allowed to go with his mother and another relative.

It may be mentioned that more than 850 people were arrested in the last six months for pulling chains in the trains of Northern Railway, unnecessarily causing inconvenience to passengers.

Earlier, Northern Railway (NR) in a statement today said the facility of alarm chain pulling (ACP) was meant to be used only in cases of extreme emergency.
