Man held for cheating South Korean tiol

Guwahati, March 18: This incident will make the maxim ‘Atithi Deva Bhava’ sound hollow. A South Korean tiol was duped of over Rs 10 lakh by a fraudster who ended up in police lockup today. Wan Yong Lee is a taekwondo grandmaster and was here under the aegis of the Assam Taekwondo Association to train State youths in the martial arts. “He came in touch with a person identified as Sonmani Das who gave him some business proposals. Believing Das, the South Korean tiol paid him over Rs 10 lakh in three installments,” a police officer said. It was only when Lee discovered that Das was a fraud, he approached Dispur police station. Das, a resident of Polashbari, was today arrested and taken into five days’ police custody. Meanwhile, Lee lamented that he is penniless now.
