Man held for raping

JOYSAGAR, May 1: Sivasagar Police on Tuesday apprehended Dhurba Saikia (46) of Chepahi gaon under Joysagar police station, an employee of the ASTC, Sivasagar, on the charge of raping his 12-year old step-daughter who was living with the accused and her mother in the same house at Chepahi gaon. As per information, Dhurba married a widow from Teok, Jorhat about six months ago. The widow has a 12-year old girl who also came to Chepahi gaon with her mother after the marriage. Since then, Dhurba had taken the advantage of the absence of his wife allegedly raped his step-daughter several times. He also allegedly threatened her not to disclose about this to anyone. But finally the shameful act came to light on Monday and the villagers lodged an FIR in the Joysagar Police Station and following this, police apprehended the accused from his house on Tuesday. Police also conducted medical examination of the victim. A case has been registered in this regard in the Joysagar Police Station under section 379 (AB) IPC, sources informed.
