Man sentenced for 7 years for raping minor

JORHAT, April 19: The Jorhat district and session judge court of Vinod Kumar Chandak awarded seven years rigorous imprisonment to Biju Doley alias Bhaity Doley of Jengraimukh Pomua village in Majuli district, after the court found him guilty of raping a minor in the year 2013, said legal sources here. The judge in his 40-page judgment also imposed fine of Rs 10,000 on Biju and if he fails to deposit the amount, his jail term will be extended to another three years. Doley was booked under Section 376,506 of IPC under section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act by the court under Jengrai police station in lower Majuli in Majuli district. On July 6, 2013 Biju had raped the minor who was working in paddy field. He offered cash and other materials so that she does not disclose about it but an FIR was lodged by the victim’s father. After 22 persons gave their statements in the court for the last five years, Biju was convicted under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, said legal sources.
