Man sentenced to 3 years for raping minor in Shillong

SHILLONG: A Shillong court has sentenced a man to three years imprisonment for raping a minor girl in the city. The Court of Special Judge, Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), Shillong found him guilty of committing offence of sexual assault on the minor. According to police August 1, 2015, the accused, Victor Rynjah of Lawsohtun Block IV, Shillong molested the minor girl at her residence at Malki, Wahkdait.

Police said that in this connection, a case was filed at Laitumkhrah police station under section 354 of the IPC. “During the course of investigation, the accused was charge sheeted under section 7 and 8 of the POCSO Act,” police said. Three years later on August 2, 2018 the court sentenced the accused to three years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 1000. It may be mentioned that last year 360 cases of crimes against children were reported out of which 298 were POCSO cases.
