Manchester, May 15: Manchester United's English Premier League (EPL) game with Bournemouth was cancelled due to safety fears prompted because of a suspect package at the Old Tafford stadium here on Sunday.

The football game was scheduled to kick-off at 3pm local time and had been pushed back to 3.45pm. But the officials have announced that the match has been called off due to a code red security alert.

Police told fans to stay away as detectives and sniffer dogs flood the stadium as they carry out their investigation.

"Due to the discovery of a suspect package in the North-West Quadrant of the Old Trafford ground, the match against Bournemouth has been abandoned today on police advice," United said on their website.

Police and sniffer dogs were in the ground, which has an almost 76,000 capacity, after they were told about the package.

According to dailymail.co.uk, Stewards ushered around 20,000 from The Sir Alex Ferguson Stand and the Stretford End when the warning was announced around 30 minutes before kick off. IANS
