KOKRAJHAR, June 30: The Manas Maozigendri Ecotourism Society (MMES) in Baksa district has been distributing saplings of different varieties to the people of the locality to mark the celebration of Vanamahatsav, 2018 since June 25.

The MMES is a vibrant community-based organization in the field of conservation and ecotourism. It was formally established on December 13, 2003 by local leaders and well-wishers of Koklabari Mouza in Baksa district of BTC. They launched Mouzigendri movement for the conservation for the revival of Manas National Park. In 1992, the UNESCO declared Manas as a World Heritage Site in danger due to heavy poaching and terrorist activities. Their dedication towards the conservation movement urged the UNESCO to remove Manas from the list of World Heritage in danger on June 21, 2011 and was recommended for its efforts in preservation.
