Manipur Appoints Oinam Sunil the New State Information Commissioner

Oinam Sunil, the former Bureau Chief of The Times of India (North East) is appointed as State Information Commissioner of Manipur on Monday. Sunil will be accompanying retired IPS officer Soibam Ibocha Singh to take the responsibility of State Information Commissioner.

Sunil, while speaking to the media, expressed his gratitude to the Biren Singh Government for this latest development in his career. Moreover, he also termed the development of the state as a trendsetter for the other North Eastern States of India.

Remarkably, Oinam Sunil was the Bureau Chief (North East) in The Times of India newspaper for 15 years. Before that as well, he was the Imphal Correspondent of The Telegraph newspaper. This journey of Sunil from the media world to the administrative field is commendable.

Sunil also said that this is a proud moment for the journalist fraternity and that does not stay limited to Manipur only but to entire North East zone wherein an example of a journalist being appointed as the State Information Commissioner has been set.

He also added, “With his appointment, the State has achieved the distinction of appointing a Journalist as State Information Commissioner for the first time.” He also expressed a hope that his appointment will; perhaps open the door for other journalists too to be vested with government duties and responsibilities.

Both the newly appointed, Soibam Ibocha Singh, IPS (Rtd) and Oinam Sunil Singh were sworn in as State Information Commissioners of Manipur at Raj Bhavan, Imphal. The oath-taking ceremony was administered by Governor Najma Heptulla.

The Commission consists of three members and Th Ibobi Singh is the Chief Information Commissioner of the Manipur Information Commission.
