Manipur has the highest concentration of weavers

Imphal, June 2: Manipur has the highest concentration of weavers and also on the possession of loom in the country with 2.04 lakh handloom workers (sharing 5.30% of all India) and 1.90 lakh loom (sharing 8.02% of all India) according to the handloom Census 2009-10 data. With the objective to promote the socio-economic condition of the handloom weavers of the state and to work for the harmonious growth of the sector, the Handloom and Textiles Section under the Department of Commerce and Industries, Government of Manipur has implemented various promotiol, development and welfare schemes for the better earning and wellbeing of weavers of Manipur.
