Manisha Koirala Leads Walk On Awareness Against Cancer

GUWAHATI: Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala, herself a cancer survivor, led ‘The Walk against Tobacco and Cancer’ in Guwahati on Sunday. Besides Koirala, Assamese actress Zerifa Wahid and Guwahati Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar were also seen in the walk that was organized by Deepsikha Foundation as part of its Preetir Enajori, 2019.

The walk meant for bringing about awareness against cancer began from Judge’s Field and ended in Cotton University premises.

Speaking to media, Manisha Koirala said: “We need a tobacco-free society. Our fight against cancer will continue.” She praised the beautiful environment of Guwahati. The Bollywood actress is also going to take part in a special session of at the Brahmaputra Literary Festival.

Preetir Enajori, 2019 had a programme at ITA Centre for Culture and Performing Art in Guwahati on Saturday. It was attended by Assam State Information Commissioner P Basumatary, renowned oncologist Dr. Tapan Saikia, Deepsikha Foundation founder chairman and trustee Debashish Sarma, B Barroah Cancer Hospital Director Dr Amal Kataki, among others. Basumatary released a souvenir on the occasion.

Deepsikha Foundation is the home to several infants, toddlers and children who are fighting the dreadful disease – cancer. The members at Deepsikha Foundation envision taking cancer awareness and care to the remotest corners of India and also establish an equitable, pain control and palliative care network throughout the country.
