Mass cleanliness drive held in West Kameng District village

Itanagar: In a first of its kind for the village, a mass cleaning drive of the water tank supplying potable drinking water to the village was undertaken on Sunday at Shergaon, West Kameng District by the villagers. Taking serious note of the deteriorating quality in drinking water supply, the villagers took initiative for the cleanliness drive in collaboration with village based NGO Garung Thuk and Department of PHED. Of late it was observed by the villagers that the water which was consumed by them earlier directly from the running taps had become dirty and were prone to many water borne diseases. The villagers took the responsibility of cleaning the water tanks by themselves. A total of five water tanks at source, providing water supply to the villagers were cleaned in different locations. The villagers, Dept of PHED, Govt. Employees of various departments of Shergaon actively participated in the cleanliness drive. The participants were provided lunch by the local based NGO Garung Thuk after the completion of the programme. The villagers have expressed hope that the cleanliness of the water supply at the village will be maintained in days to come.
