Shillong: The three-day State-level workshop on ‘Mathematics for Upper Primary School Teachers of Meghalaya’ was inaugurated by Meghalaya Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui at the Conference Hall of Shillong College, here on Wednesday.
The workshop is being organized jointly by the State Council of Science, Technology & Environment, Meghalaya (SCSTE) and the Mathematics Department, Shillong College. The objective of the programme is to train and build up the concept of mathematics among the target groups and to make mathematics learning more interesting and fun for the students.
Addressing the inaugural programme, Rymbui said that mathematics is an important subject and plays an integral part in our day-to-day lives. “Owing to the poor foundation in mathematics, the performance of our students in this subject is very low and in order to encourage and motivate our students to take up mathematics with a more positive approach, workshops such as these will equip our teachers with innovative ideas and techniques which in turn will enable them to teach our students in a more interesting manner,” he said.
