Mawhati MDC dissolves zonal committee

SHILLONG, May 16: MDC from Mawhati constituency James Sylliang who was recently suspended from the People’s Democratic Party (PDF) for a period of one year for alleged anti-party activities, on Wednesday informed that the Zonal Committee of the PDF in the constituency is dissolved from today.

Speaking to reporters at his residence in Mawlai, in the presence of many Zonal Committee members of Mawhati, Sylliang said, “We have taken this decision to dissolve the committee after proper discussion with the supporters especially after the party has taken the decision to suspend me for a period of one year.”

It may be mentioned that recently the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) had suspended two of its party MDCs – James Sylliang and Grace Mary Kharpuri – for one year on charges of anti-party activities.

Sylliang is a KHADC MDC from Mawhati constituency in Ri-Bhoi District while Kharpuri represents Nongshken constituency in East Khasi Hills.

Further, the two MDCs had alleged misappropriation of Rs 28 crore by the KHADC CEM and party chairman PN Syiem.

Sylliang in the press briefing also said that a letter will be sent to the party high command to inform them on the present development that the PDF Zonal Committee of the party has been dissolved from the constituency.

“There is also and intension to move a No Confidence (NC) motion against the present Executive Committee (EC) led by KHADC CEM PN Syiem in the next Council session,” he said.

In this connection, Sylliang informed that he will also seek the support of the Congress who is in the opposition in the district council for the NC.
