MDC HS Shylla elected  Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council Chief Executive Member

SHILLONG, July 13: NPP MDC from Nongkrem HS Shylla who was nominated by the Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance (KHDA) won the election to the post of Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) with 16 votes without any contest as Kharpuri who was a candidate for the post of CEM did not attend the election.

Later, a few members of the new alliance in KHADC facilitated Shylla and even congratulated him for winning the election and becoming the new CEM of the district council while also urging him to take up pressing issues concerning the interest of the people with earnest.

Speaking to reporters after the election on Friday, Shylla alleged that the opposition candidate Kharpuri had tried to lure some of the KHDA MDCs in supporting her and in return she will provide them with perks.

“I laud the commitment made by the MDCs within the new alliance as they did not switch side even as there was an offer from the opposition candidate,” he said.

On the issue of Sweeper lane, he said that the area is meant for people working under Municipal to reside their however there are only a hand full of municipal workers settling in the area and most the people residing in the area are illegal settlers.

“In order to remove the illegal settlers from the area the one thing which is need to be done is approach a civil court to evict them,” he said. When asked, he said the allotment of Executive Member (EM) portfolios will be decided maybe by tomorrow(Saturday) as the new alliance will first have to sit for a meeting to discuss on the matter. Earlier, on the floor of the house Shylla said that the new EC will take up many of the pending issues like the VAB, MUDA, beside others.
