Me-Dam-Me-Phi observed

mrup, Feb 1: To pay rich tributes to their ancestors, the Tai-Ahom community of greater mrup observed Me-Dam-Me-Phi with a three-day long programme from January 29 to January 31 at the Tai Kristi Kendra premises.

On the first day, besides religious rituals, the programme comprised of several competitions like drawing, recitation, debating and quiz among school children while on the second day the programme consisted of different performances of the Mahila Parisad of Tai Kristi Kendra.

On the concluding day, the programme began with ‘Freetune Sewa’ lightning of lamps, followed by flag hoisting, maidam tarpan and the main puja. After that a grand cultural procession was brought out. The open session-cum-prize distribution ceremony was held under the chairmanship of Harendra th Baruah, president of the celebration committee. Dr. J. Buragohain, Principal, mrup College, Partha Bijioy Dutta, DSP mrup, Prof ren Changmai, harkatia College and Prof  DP Gogoi, mrup College graced the occasion as the chief guest and special guests respectively while Prof Jyoti Prasan Konwar, harkatia College and Ramesh Phukan, president of Dibrugarh District Tri Sahitya Sabha attended the open session as the appointed speaker and invited guest respectively.
