Media Certification and Monitoring Committee holds meeting in Chirang DC office

Bongaigaon: The first meeting of the district-level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) on the ensuing parliamentary election was held in the office chamber the Deputy Commissioner, Chirang recently. The Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer of Chirang, Gautam Talukdar dwelt on the issues related to paid news and other instigating content in the media, which was against the code of conduct enforced already in the district. He said, “The Election Commission of India has asked to activate MCMC at the district-level also and therefore such a committee has been formed and activated. It will check all the election-related content in the media and inform the appellate authority.” Further, he stressed the importance of making political parties, journalists and printing press owners aware about the do’s and don’ts under the guidelines of the Election Commission of India. The meeting also resolved to hold the next meeting on March 27 with all the stakeholders.
