Meeting between Railway Board and NJCA fails; countrywide strike from July 11

From our Correspondent

Bongaigaon, June 28: “The last meeting held between the Railway Board and tiol Joint Council of Action on June 27 in New Delhi has not yielded any fruitful results,” said Ashish Biswas, joint general secretary of North East Frontier Railway Mazdoor Union on Tuesday at a protest meeting held in New Bongaigaon Railway junction, organized by NFRMU Bongaigaon, New Bongaigaon and Workshop branch jointly.

He said that the 36 demands raised by tiol Joint Council of Action (NJCA, joint platform of all central government employees’ unions and federations) for the improvement of the condition of the labour class people were not accepted by the government in this meeting. “Government has no intention to fulfil a single demand of NJCA. It became clear in the last meeting held in New Delhi on June 27. Hence now agitation is confirmed. From 6 am of July 11, movement of trains will stop and all central government offices will be closed. Our indefinite strike will start from then. This agitation of NJCA is not only for the benefit of government employees, but also for all labour class people as there are many demands for the labour class people who are not government employees, in the 36-point charter of demands. So we appeal to all the people to take part and co-operate with us in this strike,” said Biswas.

He added, “We will organize several programmes like rally, torchlight rally, and demonstration throughout India from today so that we can make people aware about the strike and can attach them to this strike. We have organized this demonstration today in New Bongaigaon Railway junction.”

Several noted persons of the organization including Tonmoy Saktio Raha and Phanidhar Das, both AGS, NFRMU, SS Mochahary and Dipen Bora, both secretary and president of Bongaigaon branch,  R yak and Mril Seal, both secretary and joint secretary of New Bongaigaon branch, Pabitra Barman, secretary of workshop branch and many others were present in this programme.

Similar protests meeting were organized in Kokrajhar, Fakiragram and Dhubri Railway station where Pijush Chakraborty, joint general secretary of NFRMU was present.
