A CORRESPONDENT

DIMORIA, Aug 1: After the publication of the final draft NRC in Assam on July 30, the neighboring Meghalaya State has been alarmed on the possible infiltration of those excluded in the Assam NRC. Keeping this in mind, the Meghalaya police and the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) have jointly started checking valid ID cards of every tourists coming from Guwahati at Byrnihat along the Guwahati-Shillong Road.

Notably, those travelling without valid ID cards were sent back to Assam. To continue the check, the KSU has set up an infiltration check gate near the Byrnihat police station. Numbers of tourists, who allegedly went through such harassment, appealed the Assam government to resolve the issue with its counterpart.

Notably, more than 40 lakh names have been excluded in the recently published final draft NRC which has worried the neighboring states on the pretext that these excluded persons may try to escape to these hill sates.
