Meghalaya BJP celebrates re-election of Shah

SHILLONG, Jan 24: The State unit of Bharatiya Jata Party (BJP) today celebrated the re-election of Amit Shah as the BJP president at its party office located at Lachumiere here. The current term of BJP chief Shah ended on Saturday and the new term will be his first full-term lasting three years.  Altogether, 17 nomitions were filed proposing 51-year-old Shah’s me during the three-hour exercise. Shah contested the election unopposed.

“During the last Lok Sabha election Amit Shah was one of the main canvasser for the party who had worked tirelessly for the party to win many seats especially in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and we are overjoyed at his re-election as the BJP president,” Egenstar Kurkalang, president Bharatiya  Jata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) youth wing told newsmen here on Sunday.  He said that when Shah visited Meghalaya in April 2015, many party workers drew inspiration from his speech. He informed that there are around 17 crores BJP members in the country and 63,000 members in Meghalaya.

“Our state president Shibun Lyngdoh including two of our tiol council members and other member has gone to Delhi to extend their support,” he said adding that with the re-election of Shah as the BJP president they hope the party would become stronger. He stressed on the need for cooperation from all sections of society in order to eradicate corruption and ensure clean and transparent governce.
