Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma inspects entry, exit point of Mendipathar railway station

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma accompanied by Sports and Agriculture Minister Bantiedor Lyngdoh on Wednesday inspected the site for setting up of entry and exit point-cum-facilitation centre at the Mendipathar railway station in North Garo Hills, Meghalaya.

Officials from the Transport, Tourism departments and the district administration were also present during the inspection.

“The process of taking over the land and setting up of facilitation centre has already started. Necessary instruction has been issued to PWD Building for the construction. The construction will be completed within six months,” said the Chief Minister.

Bantiedor Lyngdoh said, “It is the commitment of the MDA government to the people and through the leadership of Chief Minister, the government will ensure the completion of the entry and exit points for the overall interest of the State.”

During the course of the inspection, the Chief Minister also took a special initiative to understand how the railway link has benefited the people of North Garo Hills, particularly the farmers, who use the daily train service for transportation of vegetables to Guwahati.”

The officials briefed the Chief Minister that due to the cost-effective railway connectivity, the business community and traders are frequently using the rail network for transportation of goods, which has reduced the rates of several commodities in the district.
