Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma Urged To Develop C&RD block in West Khasi Hills

SHILLONG: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) West Khasi Hills unit on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma urging him to develop infrastructure in the district among other demands.

The FKJGP unit has demanded creation of a Community and Rural Development (C & RD) block, construction of roads, setting up of police outposts amongst others. Demanding upgradation of C & RD Block at Rambrai the FKJGP unit said that the people of the area are deprived of better administrative services, health, education and development and remains as one of the most backward area of the district. “This is the only constituency which has no block of its own. It is time to bring the people closer to a better administration and development. It is also time to raise their standard of living in all sphere of life,” FKJGP West Khasi Hills unit president Palwanbor Syiem said.

On the 72 km, Nongstoiñ – Rambrai - Kyrshai Road, the FKJGP unit stated that this is an interstate road which had been sanctioned under SAARDP (Phase A) scheme.

The organization however rued the fact that the company which is involved with the DPR of this road is moving at a snail’s pace to complete the requirement needed to start with the construction. The FKJGP unit stated that this road connects Meghalaya with Assam and it was an important in order to bring the people of the area closer to the heart of the state.

“At present, people from the border have to travel via Chaigoan and Hahim (Assam), Aradonga and Riangdo just to reach Nongstoiñ which is about 160 km almost which is The FKJGP also pointed out that 2017 the Nongstoiñ – Maweit – upto Nonghyllam Nongjri Road had entered in the map of National Highway.”

The areas that falls under this stretch of road besides generating revenue from fruits, vegetables, minerals, bamboos to the state is also one of the closest road that can be connected with Bangladesh.
