A REPORTER

SHILLONG: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader who is also the Health Minister in the Meghalaya government, AL Hek on Monday said that the claims made by Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) that the BJP or the NPP was founded by members who had left the Congress are not true.

It may be mentioned that the HNLC in a statement on October 21, said that those people who had formed the BJP or the NPP are politicians who had left the Congress.

“When the BJP was founded there were many people who were not from the Congress. Hence, how can anyone claim that the party was formed by members who had left the Congress?” posed Hek while talking to The Sentinel.

He said members of each political party — be it the Congress or the BJP or any other party — has only one intension and that is to serve the people of the State. “Those people who leave their party and join another political party is because they what to serve the people in a better way,” he said.

On the readiness of the HNLC to accept Cheristerfield Thangkhiew as a negotiator between the government and the banned outfit, he said, “Anyone who takes the initiative to bring peace in the State is always welcome.”
