Meghalaya Human Rights Commission Seeks Probe Into Rights Violation By Police

Shillong: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has directed the State police to probe into the alleged cases of human rights violation by its personnel. The MHRC in one of the alleged case of rights violation has asked the State police to probe former East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Bashan J Laloo for assaulting one Manavon Massar.

The Commission has also directed the Meghalaya police to enquire into the alleged assault of one Mancheng D Marak by one Babul Roy and five other police officers of West Garo Hills. “Issue notice to the Director General of Police, Meghalaya, to start an enquiry into the allegations made by the complainant by an officer not below the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) and submit the detailed report within 30 days of receipt of the notice,” the MHRC said in an order passed on February 12. The MHRC will again hear the case on March 18.
