Meghalaya Leader of Opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma demands probe into NEIGRIHMS issues

SHILLONG: Concerned over the stalemate in North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Meghalaya Leader of Opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma on Sunday, has called for an inquiry.

“I subscribe to the idea that there should be a proper inquiry of what is happening inside NEIGRHIMS. If anybody is found doing something intentionally to derail the whole process of the healthcare delivery system then they must be pulled up and action was taken as per law,” Dr Sangma said.

The Leader of Opposition also said that based on the seriousness of the issue after preliminary inquiry and based on the seriousness of the situation in respect of dereliction of duty if found out then the appropriate type of inquiry as per law should be conducted.

Stating that NEIGRIHMS is a tertiary referral centre for the whole north-eastern region, he expressed concern over what he said was “the lack of seriousness on the part of the State government to ensure that certain situation could be avoided and should have been avoided.”

“We are sorry that a precious institution has been lost. I condemn the attitude of the present Government which is desperate to remain in power without a sense of responsibility,” he said.
