Meghalaya Lok Janshakti Party wants Paswan-Modi talks on Bill

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya state leader of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) has requested its National President Ram Vilas Paswan to take up the matter concerning the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 with the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.

In a letter sent to Ram Vilas Paswan, LJP state leader Jamil Ahmed said, “The Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 as passed in the Lower House of Parliament, Lok Sabha is completely against the interest of the people of North East.” He added, “Many organizations of the North East India have already been protesting against this bill.” He informed that the government of Meghalaya has adopted a resolution to oppose the bill and the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad K Sangma is camping in Delhi to persuade the Prime Minister to roll back the said Bill.

“I therefore request you sir to kindly speak to the Prime Minister to roll back the said Bill as in case the Bill is passed, it will bring devastation and tragedy in the lives of the people of the North East,” he said.
