Meghalaya Minister of Agriculture Banteidor Lyngdoh for Enactment of Tough Laws

SHILLONG: As cases and incidents of abuse and molestation towards women and children are on the rise in the state, the Minister of Agriculture, Banteidor Lyngdoh has called for stronger laws to be enacted and implemented to curb such menace.

Speaking to The Sentinel, Lyngdoh also a PDF MLA from Mawkynrew constituency said, “We have discussed this matter within the government and we have also expressed the need to find a solution to fix this problem with the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma especially concerning the molestation of young women and children.”

The Minister informed that soon he will present some suggestions to the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government to curb the menace of abuse and molestation of women and children in Meghalaya which has seen an increasing trend in the past few years.

“What is needed is to further strengthen the existing laws to clamp down on the number of cases of crimes against women,” he said. He also pointed out that those people involved in carrying out such crimes against women should not be allowed to receive bail however the law should be stronger against those people who are convicted of the crime.
