Meghalaya teachers' body threatens agitation

SHILLONG, May 8: The Joint Action Committee of All Teachers’ Association of Meghalaya (JACATAM) has reiterated their commitment to shadow the proposal for the provincialisation of teachers’ services in government aided schools.
“We are committed in this issue but first we will have to wait till 21 May 2016 to hear the Chief Ministers Mukul Sangma fil call on our proposal,” JACATAM chairman ED Nongsiang told newsmen on Saturday.
The teachers association has also threaten agitation programs if the state government delays in fulfilling their proposal.
He informed that after May 21 the teacher association will serve a one month deadline to the state government. However, if the government initiates talks with the association, they will cease the agitation plans. The association further informed that the JACATAM will form an action committee with Poly Warlarpih as chairman and Esther Kharbamon as secretary along with 7 members from different teachers’ association while JACATAM leaders will be the ex officio members.
