SHILLONG: Meghalaya won by a resounding 10 wickets against Uttarakhand in the Senior Women’s One Day League plate group match in Bhubaneshwar today.

This was Meghalaya’s second consecutive victory by 10 wickets after they had defeated Bihar on Saturday.

The Meghalaya men’s and U-19 boys’ teams had both been defeated by Uttarakhand in the Ranji Trophy and Cooch Behar Trophy, but the state’s women’s team had so such difficulty today.

Prior to this match Meghalaya and Uttarakhand were the only sides in the plate group to have won all their matches. However, with this convincing win under their belts, Meghalaya have now strengthened their hold on first place.

Uttarakhand won the toss and chose to bat first, but their first three batsmen were dismissed without a run being scored. Their struggles continued, with none of their top six batsmen able to reach double figures.

Vandana Mahajan returned the best figures for Meghalaya, having taken 4/13 in eight overs, while Trisha Bera (2/10) and Pinky Chanda (2/15) both claimed a brace. Saee Purandare (1/7) and DD Dutta (1/41) also took a wicket each before Uttarakhand were dismissed for just 101 in 40.4 overs.

In the chase Meghalaya’s openers Purandare and Dutta were untroubled by the Uttarakhand bowling and saw off the required runs in exactly 30 overs. Purandare was unbeaten on 62 from 80 deliveries with nine fours, while Dutta anchored the chase at the other end, finishing on a more sedate 34 not out.
