Meghalaya will sanctioned Rs 720 crore for Ekalavya Schools

Shillong: Meghalaya will be sanctioned Rs 720 crores by the Centre to build Ekalavya model residential schools which will be situated in all the 36 blocks of the state.

This was Informed by Union Tribal Affairs Minister, Jual Oram who visited the city on Saturday. Oram, inaugurated the Rev Fr D.J. Wollaston Annexe building of St Anthony’s College, Shillong. The Union Tribal Affairs Minister said that construction of two such schools is already underway in Samanda, East Garo Hills and Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi district. Oram said that the cost for setting each school is Rs 20 crore and the construction of the 36 schools would be completed in three years.

Ekalavya Model Residential School (EMRS) is a Government of India scheme for model residential school for Indian tribals (Scheduled Tribes, ST) across India. The inauguration of the Rev Fr D.J. Wollaston Annexe building of St Anthony’s College was also attended by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
