Mercedes bus service by June end in State

GUWAHATI, June 2: Around the time Advantage Assam was launched with much hype, the Assam Government also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with transport agency Arya Transport.

As per the MoU, 25 Mercedes buses will be procured by the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) and Arya Transport will be entrusted with the task of managing and maintaining the buses.

By the end of June, 25 Mercedes buses will become operational and will ply on the two routes - Guwahati -Jorhat and Guwahati-Silchar.

The buses will have ultra-modern facilities like bio-toilets, reclining chairs, pantry carts, individual AC vents and the like.

While one such bus will cost approximately Rs 1.5 crore, as per the MoU Arya Transport will pay Rs 25,000 per bus per month to the ASTC besides lounge facilities at the bus terminus. At the initial stage, the service will be on a trial basis to be extended in due course.
