GUWAHATI, July 5: The Purbanchal Tai Sahitya Sabha condemned the Assam government’s decision to merge the Directorate of Historical and Antiquarian Studies with the Directorate of Museum. Talking to the reporters in Guwahati on Thursday, the general secretary of the Sabha Puspadhar Saikia said that the decision has been taken against the interest of the people of Assam. “From 13th century to the latter half of the 19th century, historical treasures of the state that includes Royal letters, notes, coins, manuscripts, and classical Assamese cultural troves and Sanskrit books have been persevered in the directorates of historical and antiquarian studies. Hence, without strengthening the directorate, Dispur is trying to wipe it out,” Saikia said. Saikia demanded to withdraw the of merger and appealed to revitalize the directorate by appointing a competent person as Chairman.
