MHA Concerned of ULFA Regrouping, Sarbananda Sonowal Leaves For Delhi

GUWAHATI: Following the grenade blast at Zoo Road here on May 15 and fresh inputs of the Assam Police, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is viewing with great concern the activity of ULFA (I) to regroup its earlier cadres and also carry out subversive activities across the State. In this regard, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal left for New Delhi on Sunday. There is a likelihood of Chief Minister Sonowal meeting Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on May 20 in New Delhi over the recent spurt in activities of the rebel organization across the State.

The Assam Police has come across several significant inputs during the interrogation of the two main accused Jahnavi Saikia and Pranamoy Rajguru. The MHA has viewed with concern especially the report that some intellectuals are working as over ground links of ULFA-I. Another aspect reported by the intelligence agencies is that the banned organization is trying to regroup the over ground wing of the organization by contacting several of its former cadres and leaders.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has instructed the State Director General of Police (DGP) that anybody having connections with the proscribed organization must be arrested. Till date, the State Police has arrested five persons in connection with the Zoo Road grenade blast that left 12 persons injured.
