LAKHIMPUR: The body of a minor girl from a village along the Assam-Arunachal border in Lakhimpur district was recovered on Sunday in the forest area under Papumpare district of Arunachal Pradesh. The incident caused a sensation in the Dhalpur area and local people gheraoed the Sesa Police Station under Arunachal Pradesh, alleging arrogant and lackadaisical attitude on the part of Arunachal Police with regard to the recovery of the child’s body and investigation into the case.

Local people suspect that the child was murdered after being raped. As per report, the seven-year-old girl of Rajgarh Da-jan village under Simaluguri police outpost was missing since Saturday. She was returning home from school but did not reach her house. Her father, after frantic attempts to find her, lodged an FIR at Simaluguri Police Outpost on the same day at 7 pm.

Finally her body was recovered in the forest area of Arunachal Pradesh Forest Research Centre located under Papumpare district. Following the recovery of the body, local people gheraoed the Sesa police outpost and raised a hue and cry, slamming the negligence of the police personnel concerned. However, Lakhimpur Superintendent of Police Sudhakar Singh and Papumpare district SP arrived at the spot and the situation was brought under control. “The investigation is on to find out the cause of the child’s death and to trace the culprits possibly involved in her death. The body has been sent for post mortem,” said SP Sudhakar Singh. He, however, did not make any comment on the allegation of the child being raped.
