Itanagar, July 2: East Siang police have apprehended a minor in possession of psychotropic drugs during a checking at the 2 Mile check gate at Pasighat recently. Nine strips of Nitrozepam tablets and eight packets of ganja (marijuana) were seized from the possession of the boy, who was travelling in an Aalo-bound night passenger cab (Tata Sumo). The checking was conducted by a team of police led by DSP Torum Makcha. The drugs were intended to be delivered to a customer in Aalo, police said. During interrogation, the boy revealed that he was engaged in the illegal job by an Itanagar-based non-tribal drug supplier.
Activists of the Women Against Social Evil (WASE) said it has become a new tactic among drug suppliers to engage minors to peddle drugs to avoid arrest.
“The drug traffickers are turning to innocent children to peddle drugs, which have become a cause of serious concern,” an WASE activist said.
