Mirza, June 9:  Rabin Baishya, Ranger of Palasbari (Mirza) forest range, was today placed under suspension over rampant earth cutting in Mirza area. Baishya’s suspension order came following Forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma’s visit to the area recently.

Forest minister Brahma, who visited the area on June 4, was shocked at the rampant earth cutting in Palasbari (Mirza) forest range of East Kamrup division and had directed the district and forest officials to immediately stop the mece.

The Forest minister was perturbed to see that the hills were being flattened in the area despite prohibitory orders being in place. The minister was accompanied by South Kamrup DC Rajib Prakash Barua, SP Prashanta Saikia and Principal Secretary (forest) Sanjeeva Kumar besides other senior officials during her visit.

The locals told her that the Forest department was turning its back on the problem despite being informed of the mece.

On June 1, the DC has seized excavators, dumpers and Falkland machines during an operation in the area.
